Beat the Summer Heat!
Just wanted to pass along a few tips to beat the summer heat as the dog days of summer are fast approaching (not to mention the heatwave sweeping through the Midwest right now).
- Schedule physically demanding activities at cooler times of the day. This includes doing your running / jogging at night or early morning. If running at night you may want to consider wearing a reflective running vest for your safety. Also, consider this when planning family activities or those trips to fair or amusement park.
- Drink lots of water. Seems like common sense we know, but if you are exercising or working outside drink even when you do not feel thirsty.
- When working or exercising outside take plenty of breaks. Now is not the time to be pushing yourself to new limits!
- Eat light, nutritious meals and foods high in water content like fruits and vegetables.
- Use sunscreen. We recommend SPF 15 or higher.
- Wear light, loose cotton clothing and hats to keep the sun out of your face.
- Stay in Inside! If you do not need to be outside in extreme heat, don't go!
